Birds of a feather

It seems to me that owls and swallows get all the glory. I mean, I love them as much as the next person (maybe even a wee bit more), but we can't forget that there are more than two species of birds. Time to show the others a little love.

No more blank walls

I moved into my current home just about a year ago and still haven't taken the time to hang stuff up on my living room walls. Very boring, I know. That's (hopefully) changing this week as I endeavor to find my desk and redecorate (okay, okay just decorate) my living room. So, of course, I turn to Etsy for inspiration. I'd be happy to have any of these lovelies hanging on my walls.

Time Traveling (or "What I SHOULD have done on my summer vacation")

I just spent the morning sitting in the shade at my sister's house helping with a garage sale. I had a few things for sale, mostly books. One of the few other things I had was a little souvenir bell my husband bought a couple of years ago when we lived in Delaware. I had just had shoulder surgery and was propped up in bed. He got the bell from a local convenience store so he could fetch and carry stuff for me to the bedroom. So sweet of him. That little bell got me thinking of traveling to Delaware and of the other vacations we've taken.

I am really bad about buying souvenirs - as in I pretty much never buy them. I realize now it is probably not a good idea to rely on my brain to keep track of vacation memories. I wish I'd gotten more of the fun little doo-dads for sale in tourist shops. I love doing the touristy things when we travel, so why should the keepsake part of traveling be any different. If I could go back in time, here are some of the goodies I might have gotten from previous vacations. Granted they are all vintage so some might even be older than I am, but if we're time-traveling here why not go all-out?

Sleepytime

I don't know about you, but my pillow cases never match my bed sheets. Or my blankets for that matter. I was never all matchy-matchy. (I never make my bed either! Gasp!) I'm more about comfort. But that goes beyond just what feels good on the skin when I lay down to sleep. See, I have these pillowcases I have had since I was a kid. They are straight up 1970s goodness. One of them, my favorite, has a huge rainbow arching from one side to the other. It reminds me of being a kid at home, all safe and comfy.

Here are some other pillowcases that evoke the same feelings of comfort and nostalgia.
